1. CONSERVATION:
Cut down on consumption and waste in all forms
- Use both sides of paper whenever possible
- Send more emails and file electronically
- Reuse paper
- Buy recycled paper and other recycled materials/Know what the county recycles - glass, cardboard and plastic - and where you can take it
- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle whenever possible
- Compost if applicable
2. ENERGY:
Saving electricity and having efficient equipment whenever possible
- Shut lights off when leaving a room
- Use energy efficient light bulbs
- Turn off equipment when not in use: printers, phones, computers
- Adjust your thermostat to maintain a reasonable temperature
- Water efficient taps and toilets
3. GO NON-TOXIC:
- Encourage use of chlorine and phosphate-free cleaners and natural based cleaners and methods
4. REDUCE PACKAGING WASTE:
- Encourage reusable cups and bottles
- Instead of bottled water, use a water filter
- Returnable and reusable packaging is preferred, i.e. rechargeable batteries and printer and toner cartridges
5. BUY LOCAL/BUY FRESH:
- Less energy is consumed when we buy products in our local area
6. QUANTITY:
- Buy in bulk when your funds and needs allow
- Practice portion control
7. SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS:
- Share green resources when possible
- Use green logo to highlight your commitment
8. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
